Delicious and Irresistible – The Range at Teton Springs Resort

Posted by admin in Teton Valley Dining, Victor Idaho Restaurants on January 24th, 2014 4:37 pm

Excitement is in the air at Teton Springs Resort! It’s the kind of exhilaration that comes with unveiling something new and dynamic. In this case, it’s the beginning of a new era in the culinary experience at this all-season, full-service destination. No doubt Teton Springs definitely raised the bar for everything that followed in Teton Valley. It appears that the tradition for quality continues, as it has recently been announced that nationally recognized Executive Chef Rick Sordahl has taken over the reins of the food and beverage department at Teton Springs. Under Rick’s tutelage, club members, local residents and destination guests alike will immediately notice a new look and feel at the Range, formerly the Headwaters Grille. New décor aside, what will truly thrill Range patrons is the fusion of great food and warm friendly service that promise to define the dining experience at this establishment.

Everyone loves good food, even folks who don’t necessarily have a highly sophisticated palate, like yours truly. Honestly, it’s a coup having the opportunity to sample cuisine prepared by a chef of Rick’s caliber, right here in our humble Victor, Idaho neighborhood. For the past few years, Chef Sordahl was the Executive Chef at the ultra deluxe Amangani Resort in Jackson Hole, and prior, enjoyed stints at some of the country’s most prominent resorts. Rick has also enjoyed recognition from the James Beard Foundation in New York, which just happens to be the highest honor bestowed on food and beverage professionals in North America.

Chef Sordahl and the Range will surely compliment the Teton Springs resort team and these first class facilities. Visitors flock to the well appointed lodge room and suites and the glorious Stillwaters Spa & Salon, unveiled in 2007.

Then there are the ultra luxurious mountain log homes that border the golf course, and this isn’t just any golf course.

Blending tradition with a huge dose of talent, the Headwaters Golf Course is recognized by recreation golfers and golf professionals alike, to be a true masterpiece. Would stand to reason, this course was designed by the master himself, the legendary Byron Nelson.

Range diners will surely benefit from Chef Sordahl’s culinary talents & values which include operating his restaurants under a guiding principle of sustainability, his passion and farm-to-table approach to dining, and creating diverse menus of inspired dishes complimented by a well-versed wine list. Rick’s menu at the Range incorporates beef and pork from native ranches and farms and he plans to add fish specials to the menu on weekends.

Rick is not only a master in the kitchen, but he’s also a really nice guy. That probably explains why most of the gracious Headwaters Grille staff we’ve come to know and love over the years, will be staying on at the Range. Good for them and smart too. It’s not often we have the chance to hone our professional skills with a mentor like Rick Sordahl will undoubtedly be to the men and women of the Range. It’s on-the-job training on the true, but often elusive art, of running a great restaurant.

I’ve sampled some of Rick’s creations in the past and suffice to say; I would advise those who love great food to run, not walk, to the Range. At the soft opening a week or so ago, the reviews were stellar and the tables overflowing. During the winter season the Range operates Thursday-Saturday 5- 9 p.m. If current demand is any indication, I would always consider making a reservation – 208.787.8130.

Rick and his crew will also cater private parties, special group functions, weddings and the like, indoors and out, depending on the season. Insure your next get together with family, friends and co-workers is extra special. Work with the best – welcome to Teton Springs Chef Sordahl.

Bon appétit!

It’s a New Year – Let’s Go Outside

Posted by admin in Heli Skiing, Snow-shoeing on January 7th, 2014 12:01 pm

Whew, not sure about you, but I am relieved the holiday season is just about over. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything about Christmas and the aftermath, but I am so ready to give up the sugar cookies and the endless supply of homemade bon bons. Thank God there was never a fruit cake in sight! Most of us over indulge this time of year, and that’s o.k. Goes with the territory. But now it’s time to step back from the buffet table, embrace a new year and maybe even get serious about what makes winter in Teton Valley so darn appealing.

Across the globe in every language imaginable, people have made the quintessential New Year’s resolutions, to perhaps eat healthier, manage stress better, lose weight, squeeze in more “me time,” and probably the grand daddy of resolutions, exercise more. Sounds like a visit to Teton Springs Lodge & Spa is in order! At some level or another, all of these pledges we make to ourselves could be clicked off, in the most pleasant non resolution way I would add, at this very intimate and extremely beautiful hotel in Victor, Idaho.

Plenty of winter recreationists’ jump started their 2014 resolution to exercise more with a pre New Year visit to Teton Springs. Hotel and cabin guests took full advantage of the resort’s Idaho ski packages in November and December, when Grand Targhee held true to their pre Thanksgiving opening. In fact, conditions at both our home resorts, Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole, reported the best snow conditions in the west early on and still lay claim to total snowfall to date in the northern Rockies. So what else is new?!

Some of the Best Snow Trails for Snow-Shoeing and Cross-country Skiing

The best winter vacations no doubt include skiing in virtually every discipline, and, it doesn’t hurt that Teton Valley has to be one of the country’s most stress free environments. At Teton Springs, well, there’s absolutely nothing frantic about the pace at this cozy low-key resort. With the stunning morning light illuminating the Big Hole Mountains, a brisk ski on the resort’s groomed Nordic track is the perfect way to start one’s day. Sure, you may run into the occasional moose out for a morning stroll, but you’ll virtually enjoy the solitude we are often denied in our everyday lives. And, if variety truly is the spice of life, check out the myriad of groomed Nordic trails that envelop Teton Valley, courtesy of our friends at
Teton Valley Trails & Pathways.

Heli Skiing, Snowmobiling, and Many More Snow – Fun Activities Across the Teton Valley

To take it a step further, a day of skiing the best powder in the west with the stunning Teton Mountains as your backdrop is a day of heli skiing; this could very well be the most precious “me time” imaginable. Wake up in one of the deluxe suites at Teton Springs, then mosey on out to the heli pad, just steps from your room. You’ll be hard pressed to ever find a heli ski package more affordable and totally hassle free. Now, that’s a New Year’s resolution worth making.

Stay in a Beautiful Log Cabin with your Family or Friends

Booking one of the luxury mountain log homes at Teton Springs seems to be the most popular way to go when looking for the optimum Idaho snowboard packages. Your options include a three, four or five bedroom cabin, tucked in the shadow of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The only problem is; you may never want to venture out of this pad. The great rooms are just that, great, with custom designed furnishings reflecting the area’s chic western flavor. Kitchens are commercial grade, for those so inspired. The deck wrapping the cabins beacons after an unforgettable day in the mountains. Kick off your boots, uncork Idaho’s best chardonnay and savor this moment. This is what every vacation should feel like.

There’s another compelling reason to visit eastern Idaho in January; Teton Valley kicks off the New Year with their annual Great Snow Fest. Slated for January 16-20, the businesses celebrate Martin Luther King with a dynamic line-up of fun activities for the entire family. The snow sculpting contest has been nationally recognized but the most exciting event is the NASJA sanctioned skijoring contest. You’ll never look at cross country skiing the same way again. For visitors to the valley, the perfect way to see this glorious place, get the heart rate up, and enjoy a close to the weekend’s events is the wildlife ski tour with the Teton Regional Land Trust. Book a deluxe lodge room at a special Snow Fest rate of $129.00 per night. You’ll need to call the nice folks at Teton Springs Lodge for this special offer.

The Season of Giving and Playing is Upon Us

Posted by admin in General, Grand Teton Lodging, Skiing Stay and Play Packages, Vacation Packages on December 23rd, 2013 1:20 pm

Happy Holidays from Teton Springs Lodge & Spa! The staff at this boutique property has wasted no time in celebrating the waning days of 2013, mostly by getting out and sampling what they sell. What’s not to like, when part of your employment orientation includes skiing at Grand Targhee, snow biking, back country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Yes, it’s true; everyone who works at the lodge & spa is encouraged to personally experience the extraordinary amenities found at Teton Springs, voted the “Best Hotel in Idaho,” (US News & World Report 2012 & 2013). So suffice to say, a critical line item in the job description encourages staff to sample the endless array of recreational activities that visitors can expect to experience, not only at Teton Springs, but throughout the entire Yellowstone-Teton territory. Tough job, but somebody has to do it.

It’s easy to understand why this gracious property in quaint Victor, Idaho, is inundated with applications when any position becomes available. Staff learns pretty quickly that the core brand message defining this business is the environment, how to see it, smell it and embrace it. For everyone the experiences are different, but the magic is the same. Time spent in this special place, with jaw dropping mountain vistas and the earth covered in white, can truly be life altering for guests and staff alike.

Sleigh Rides, Elk, Snow Biking, Tons of Winter Activities

Every day visitors wake to the promise of a new adventure. Maybe it’s an early morning ski into the Caribou-Targhee National Forest that surrounds Teton Springs, a sleigh ride thru an elk preserve in Victor, or a romantic dinner at neighboring Linn Canyon Ranch as the sun sets over the Big Hole Mountains.

Another excursion I strongly recommend is a back country ski tour. The folks at our favorite all-things-adventure retail shop, Yostmark Mountain Equipment, are the experts in showing off “for locals eyes only,” off-the-beaten-path terrain in and around the Teton Mountains. Not an expert skier, don’t have to be. Yostmark specializes in tours and equipment for all levels as well as both fashionable and technical winter clothing. No such thing as winter doldrums here. http://www.yostmark.com/

Safe to say, the savvy traveler is quickly discovering that Teton Valley is a place not simply to be savored during the summer season, or, that winter is just about the skiing, as good as it is. Truth be known, winter season easily rivals that of summer for things to do, and, as the snow settles over the valley, with it comes a total sense of serenity. It’s peaceful and spectacularly beautiful.

Relax and the Stillwater’s Spa and Salon

For everyone, a reprieve from the elements is in order, and the Stillwaters Spa and Salon at Teton Springs is the place in Teton Valley to pursue complete indulgence, or, get the best hair cut of your life. Simply stated, this staff is good! Resort guests are continually blown away by the quality of this facility and the spa is also a local’s favorite gathering spot for treatments and pampering.

There’s no better place to celebrate a special occasion, or simply a ladies night out, than the intimate, friendly and relaxed Stillwaters Spa. And, if you’re looking for a Christmas gift that your loved one will never have to return, consider a Gift Card from the Stillwaters Spa.

You Heard it… Golfing!

Speaking of holiday cheer, be a true hero by surprising your special girl or guy with the ultimate Christmas prize – the gift of membership to the award-winning, Byron Nelson designed, Headwaters Golf Club. WOW -this would truly be the gift that keeps on giving year after year!

January 1 is within sights, and a repeat theme in New Year’s resolutions for many of us is a renewed commitment to physical fitness. It’s easily within our reach in Teton Valley. See you in the mountains!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM TETON SPRINGS LODGE & SPA!
