Getting an Early Jump on Summer Fun in the Tetons
Posted by admin in Fly Fishing The Tetons, Golf Packages, Golfing in the Tetons on May 17th, 2013
WE BASICALLY SKIPPED SPRING THIS YEAR IN TETON VALLEY LOVE GETTING AN EARLY JUMP ON SUMMER FUN!
I’m not delusional enough to think there won’t be some spring like days in Teton Valley over the next few weeks. However, there is no disputing that for the past two weeks plus, the typical cool, unsettled spring weather has alluded us and we’ve traded the unpredictable for the sublime with temps consistently reaching the high 70′s in this gorgeous Yellowstone-Teton region.
But who’s complaining?! I feel like we’ve totally cheated the weather gods with this pre Memorial Day head start on bike riding, golfing, hiking and fishing. Ah, especially the golf.
The Headwaters Course at Teton Springs opened weeks ahead of schedule and you would swear it was June given the quality of the fairways and greens. So, put away any trepidations you may have had about booking an early season “Stay & Play” Package at the Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. And, the weather isn’t the only thing perfect about this 2013 spring season. The year’s lowest rates for a night in the lodge and a day of golf on the award-winning Headwaters course make for a perfect getaway with money to spare.
The weather also proves perfect for dinner on the Headwaters Grille patio (Thurs-Sat 5-9 & soon to be expanded to 7 nights a week) and Chef Jordan is flying more seafood in every day! The Grille opens for lunch 7 days a week starting Saturday the 18th and the menu options look terrific for that apre golf Teton Waters Ranch Hot Dog and/or Happy Hour specials from 5-7.
There’s also time to shake off the winter cobwebs with a most affordable “Spring Into The Spa” spring get-away packages at the Stillwaters Spa & Salon. How terrific would a massage and a night in a luxurious lodge room feel after days of working in the yard and other post winter clean up duties.
Makeovers are a specialty at this delightful facility and these folks are about to unveil a makeover of their own. They’re showing off Salon renovations with a Open House on Friday May 25. It’s worth repeating, this is the perfect time to book those resort golf and spa packages!
In addition to all the fun stuff to do at Teton Springs, it’s also the optimum time to check out the neighborhood, starting with the City of Victor. While this charming downtown area may be limited to a few blocks, there’s plenty of reasons to stop and explore. If you’re hungry, I’d head straight to the The Brakeman American Grill for what could easily be the best (and biggest) burger of your life – no exaggeration, no kidding. There’s other things on the menu but why bother?! Joe cooks everything to order so don’t expect fast food. The french fries are hand cut from Idaho spuds and my only complaint here -there’s just too many of them – and you will eat every last one, served with their own secret fry sauce. Yum!
Hope you save room after your burger for a stop at the Victor Emporium for a world famous huckleberry milkshake. This friendly & eclectic store comes equipped with its own old fashioned soda fountain and the Emporium’s reputation attracts visitors from everywhere imaginable. While, even a President or two has graced its doors!
After all this great food, it may be time for a bike ride! Teton Springs Lodge & Spa has a great partner in Victor that can set you up with any ride under the Teton sun, and on the right bike just for you. The staff at Fitzgeralds are the local experts in anything to do with both the hard core mountain biking scene or for those looking to simply cruise the bike path with kids in tow. And, don’t miss their big spring sale going on now.
As you cruise through Victor, you can’t help but notice the drift boats loaded and headed to the area’s rivers. There’s good reason the local fly fishing guides are wearing smiles as wide as the valley floor these day. So, when you call to ask about the current spa and golf specials, make sure to also inquire about fishing packages. After all, even though it’s only mid May, it’s already that time of year!
Fly Rods and Golf Clubs

Fly Rods and Golf Clubs – Spring is in the air and so are the deals!
O.K. we have finally hung up the boards for the season. Granted, some local residents are so distraught over the ski season being over they can barely get out of bed in the morning. But for many of us at Teton Springs Resort, seeing the signs of spring everywhere is something to truly celebrate; we couldn’t be happier. Mother geese on our property have taken over their familiar birthing spots and any day now some of us will actually see the sweetest neon green (or are they actually yellow?) goslings follow mom, flee the nest and head for more secure cover. The hawks are flying with wild abandon and grass is feverishly pushing up thru the water enriched ground. Ah spring.
Fly Fishing In Idaho and Wyoming – Best in the US
One of the best things about visiting Teton Valley is you can fish all year long. There’s always a regional river open, or sections at least, and some of the best trout catching days are when you’re forced to wear funny looking gloves with the fingers poking thru. However, spending time on the water is always worth the effort no matter what time of year. Fly fishing is virtually the only sport I know of that when you’re fly fishing, all you think about is fly fishing. Talk about a true reprieves from the “real” world. That said, I believe it’s critical that everyone learn to fly fish for their own mental health.
The best thing about booking a stay at Teton Springs this time of year is you practically have the rivers all to yourself and we know the fish are always feeding on something. The nice folks at Teton Springs will set you up in a deluxe lodge room, or suite, at some crazy spring rate and will even share the scoop on which bugs are feeding on the Teton or South Fork of the Snake. You’ll reach the Teton before your morning cup of coffee is gulped and the Fly Fishing on the South Fork of the Snake River is of course legendary among fly fishermen everywhere. It’s big water, filled with even bigger fish. Always best to take an expert guide along for this ride. But hey, don’t take my word for it, check out the video!
The Guest Service staff at Teton Springs will also tell you about the incredible Spring offer for accommodations and a guided fishing trip on the world famous Henry’s Fork where the bug of choice will be the coveted salmon fly. The price is amazing, and remember, you won’t find this doozy offer on their web site web but you can check out the digs.
Simply Put – A Beautiful Golf Course in the Teton Valley
Golf is the other sport that many of us live for and news that the Headwaters Club at Teton Springs is opening April 25th is music to our ears. Another year when the clubs come out of the bag early at Headwaters; you gotta love it! I know anxious guests do; they’ve been calling for weeks to book the Spring Stay & Stay Package. Who could blame them; there’s never a more affordable time to play Headwaters, which in my humble opinion, is the best golf course in all of eastern Idaho.
If a summer trip to Teton Valley is more in order for your next vacation, don’t worry, the fishing only gets better with each passing day. We’ll be sure to leave a few of the big browns for ya!
