Tough to Leave Teton Valley for Spring Break When the Lifts Still Turn Round and Round! I took a cruise once many moons ago. It was a family celebration for my dad’s 70th birthday and it was a short jaunt of three nights on the ocean. That was plenty. I had a blast with my dad and siblings but it seemed like waiting for the next extraordinary buffet was the daily highlight. My friends have since tried to entice me over the years to book a longer spring break trip on one of the newer and massive cruise ships. I’ve never taken the bait, for a variety of reasons.
I’m not knocking the cruise vacation per se as most are probably magnificent journeys with exotic warm weather beachy places thrown in. Just not for me. My key concern is the fact that these floating cities seem to break down, a lot, leaving the huddled masses hungry, thirsty and frustrated. Not to mention floating aimlessly at sea sometimes for days on end. Or, maybe you get lucky and you don’t suffer mechanical difficulties, just lower GI ones, from some intestinal super bug that at the speed of sound takes passengers and crew hostage.
Spring Break in the Teton Valley
Springs break at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa is definitely the best option for the winter sports enthusiast dedicated to squeezing in a few more quality days on the snow.
After all, Grand Targhee will accommodate this need for carving perfect turns on pristine and freshly groomed slopes deep into April. And, it’s no coincidence that Teton Springs Lodge & Spa is offering a FREE night when you book two over Spring Break. Why this generous offer when this boutique property is already so popular in all seasons? Well, they know from personal experience that a few days of spring skiing in the Tetons just never prove to be enough, and, the folks at Teton Springs are simply experts at wanting to spoil their guests, check out our Winter stay and play packages. Guess that’s why their visitor ratings on TripAdvisor.com are always so sky high and the lodge was recently voted "The Best Hotel in Idaho" for the second straight year!
Luxurious Mountain Log Homes – Skiing & Lodge Vacation
Their generosity doesn’t limit you to the lodge & suites on this deal, the luxurious mountain log homes are also included in this offer. If this getaway needs to be a quick trip, there’s always the one night lodge & ski combo at the Lodge with a gourmet breakfast basket delivered to your room.
There’s also a myriad of backcountry terrain in this neighborhood if an early morning trek at sunrise with the Tetons in full view is your thing for spring or, a warm afternoon jaunt in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest when the rising temps transform the bowls and glades into a corn snow fest.
Relaxing at the Stillwaters Spa & Salon
There’s no doubt, a spring skiing vacation is so much more civilized. Most days in late March & April, it’s best to sleep in, enjoy a light breakfast and let the staff at the Stillwaters Spa & Salon work their magic with a Deep Tissue Massage and/or a treatment designed to sooth & lubricate dry winter skin. There’s rush in hitting the slopes early this time of year, unless it’s a powder day of course.
Normally as old man winter relaxes his grip, you’ll want to wait until the high altitude snow softens under the Rocky Mountain sun and your boards glide effortlessly over the vast collection of runs on Targhee’s two mountains.
Spring Skiing and Eating Well
Spring skiing also means leaving the down-filled parka behind; this is vest wearing weather with tall cold beverages savored on the deck at cocktail time. You’ll arrive back at Teton Springs in time for the dinner bell (winter hours – Thurs thru Sunday 5:00-9:30).
The Headwaters Grille at Teton Springs Resort is serving up some scrumptious dishes from their new menu and they’ll start you off with Chef Jordan’s amazing crab cakes or classic Calamari. If you’re around at the end of March, the Headwaters Grille is serving their famous Easter Brunch. Make those reservations early; this is easily of one the most beautiful locations in Teton Valley to celebrate Easter Sunday (208.787.8130).
So, grab some friends and head for the hills. Unlike a cruise to the islands, you’ll never get seasick on this spring break adventure!
This holiday season feels different. There has been so much sadness in our country. Rather than focusing on the goodies under the tree bearing our name, I think it’s safe to say most of us will be thinking of the families in America who this year bear heavy hearts and unfathomable loss. I know I will be.
Spending time in the great outdoors is a most effective way to unleash our spiritual energy. The world seems to always make greater sense when we’re standing at the summit on any given peak in the Grand Tetons while taking in all the wonders of this glorious place. It reminds me that there is so much good in our universe. I especially love watching the families reunite during the holidays at Teton Springs Resort. They may be coming for the Christmas ski vacation packages but this special place holds other treasures, like simply being together as a family in an environment that is comforting, nurturing and stimulating.
Many Fun and Exciting Outdoor Activities
For many of us, a day exploring the great outdoors is more than just physical activity. It’s nourishment for the soul, and more importantly, a chance to leave our daily obsessions with technology and anything real world behind. It’s a time for self discovery and reflection, especially while on a hearty trek breathing in pure, clean mountain air. One can almost feel the stress drip from their shoulders like the fallen snow. Teton Springs Resort lies adjacent to the Caribou-Targhee National Forest so easy to quickly transform yourself into another world. A snowshoe or cross-country ski trip through this magical place promises a time of peace and reflection, and nothing will thrill a child more than spending time in the splendor of our precious planet. You may even spot a moose or two sharing your path. There are many outdoor activities while staying at Teton Springs, for everyone to enjoy.
Grand Targhee continues to live up to its impressive reputation for often having the best, and most, snow in North America this season.
The Best Skiing, the Best Snow, The Best Place to Stay – Teton Springs Lodge
Teton Springs specializes in ski packages with this Wyoming gem where powder runs are almost guaranteed and the scenery alone propels you into sensory overload. This small Wyoming area is a mere 30 minute drive from Teton Springs and now Targhee has arranged for someone else to do the driving. So, sit back, relax, and take in the sights from Teton Springs as you cross the state line into a corner of wild, wonderful Wyoming, where Targhee reigns supreme.
And, if you plan on ringing in the New Year at Teton Springs, hang a little later at Targhee that day & take in their annual Torchlight Parade and fireworks display. It’s a terrific way to say goodbye to 2012 and embrace the promises that only a brand new year can deliver. It all happens right after the lifts close so you’ll be back at Teton Springs in time for a New Year’s feast and celebration at the Headwaters Grille (need to check on availability; Headwaters will be hopping!)
Teton Springs specializes in snowboarding vacation packages, which also include options for snowcat skiing at Targhee, or, the once-in-a-lifetime powder experience only a heli ski excursion can deliver. There’s no fighting for powder lines on this trips, there’s plenty to go around!
Happy Holidays from your friends at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. We look forward to many happy turns with you this season!
When Teton Springs Lodge & Spa made its grand entrance in Teton Valley in late 2007, it raised the bar, and more than a notch, for hotel/suite accommodations in all of eastern Idaho. Grand Targhee Vacation Rentals, headquartered in the county seat of Driggs, Idaho, has been steadily building a healthy inventory of private homes, condominiums and town homes, all located primarily east of Driggs. Vacation rentals, Grand Targhee style, are conveniently located off of Ski Hill Road, giving visitors a direct shot to Grand Targhee Resort, the year-round destination in nearby Alta, Wyoming.
Guests who stay offsite in Grand Targhee Vacation Rentals also enjoy all the benefits & amenities afforded guests staying on site at this powder snow Mecca which include terrific ski school packages for families. Targhee is cradled in the west slope of the Teton Mountains, with two mountain peaks and over 2,500 acres of skiable terrain. Grand Targhee’s base area is compact and all services are snuggly set in the charming western village adding an intimacy, almost nest like quality, not found at today’s mega resorts. Visitors to this area will find restaurants, ski school, retail shops, groceries, ski and snowboard rentals and daycare all within walking distance of the lodging units. However, it’s Targhee’s snow that gets top billing here. Boasting over 500 inches annually, Targhee’s snow is legendary among powder snobs and few can argue that it ranks as some of the lightest and driest in the country. Targhee slopes are nirvana for intermediate level skiers but there’s also plenty of challenging terrain to engage the more proficient and adventuresome skier and snowboarder.
Grand Targhee Vacation Rentals For The Summer Season
Believe it or not, all that snow will finally melt and Teton Springs guests and Grand Targhee vacation rental patrons anxiously flock to Targhee during the summer season. What a view as you ride their scenic chairlift to the top of Fred’s Mountain which peaks at 10,000 feet. There is an exciting network of mountain bike trails to take down from the top, from rugged to sublime, or, lace up those hiking boots and join the resort naturalist for a leisurely walk down. You’ll be able to identify every Wyoming wildflower by hike’s end; don’t forget to pack that picnic. Your evening hot tub at the Grand Targhee vacation rental awaits you!
