Happy Holidays from Teton Springs Lodge & Spa! The staff at this boutique property has wasted no time in celebrating the waning days of 2013, mostly by getting out and sampling what they sell. What’s not to like, when part of your employment orientation includes skiing at Grand Targhee, snow biking, back country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Yes, it’s true; everyone who works at the lodge & spa is encouraged to personally experience the extraordinary amenities found at Teton Springs, voted the “Best Hotel in Idaho,” (US News & World Report 2012 & 2013). So suffice to say, a critical line item in the job description encourages staff to sample the endless array of recreational activities that visitors can expect to experience, not only at Teton Springs, but throughout the entire Yellowstone-Teton territory. Tough job, but somebody has to do it.
It’s easy to understand why this gracious property in quaint Victor, Idaho, is inundated with applications when any position becomes available. Staff learns pretty quickly that the core brand message defining this business is the environment, how to see it, smell it and embrace it. For everyone the experiences are different, but the magic is the same. Time spent in this special place, with jaw dropping mountain vistas and the earth covered in white, can truly be life altering for guests and staff alike.
Sleigh Rides, Elk, Snow Biking, Tons of Winter Activities
Every day visitors wake to the promise of a new adventure. Maybe it’s an early morning ski into the Caribou-Targhee National Forest that surrounds Teton Springs, a sleigh ride thru an elk preserve in Victor, or a romantic dinner at neighboring Linn Canyon Ranch as the sun sets over the Big Hole Mountains.
Another excursion I strongly recommend is a back country ski tour. The folks at our favorite all-things-adventure retail shop, Yostmark Mountain Equipment, are the experts in showing off “for locals eyes only,” off-the-beaten-path terrain in and around the Teton Mountains. Not an expert skier, don’t have to be. Yostmark specializes in tours and equipment for all levels as well as both fashionable and technical winter clothing. No such thing as winter doldrums here. http://www.yostmark.com/
Safe to say, the savvy traveler is quickly discovering that Teton Valley is a place not simply to be savored during the summer season, or, that winter is just about the skiing, as good as it is. Truth be known, winter season easily rivals that of summer for things to do, and, as the snow settles over the valley, with it comes a total sense of serenity. It’s peaceful and spectacularly beautiful.
Relax and the Stillwater’s Spa and Salon
For everyone, a reprieve from the elements is in order, and the Stillwaters Spa and Salon at Teton Springs is the place in Teton Valley to pursue complete indulgence, or, get the best hair cut of your life. Simply stated, this staff is good! Resort guests are continually blown away by the quality of this facility and the spa is also a local’s favorite gathering spot for treatments and pampering.
There’s no better place to celebrate a special occasion, or simply a ladies night out, than the intimate, friendly and relaxed Stillwaters Spa. And, if you’re looking for a Christmas gift that your loved one will never have to return, consider a Gift Card from the Stillwaters Spa.
You Heard it… Golfing!
Speaking of holiday cheer, be a true hero by surprising your special girl or guy with the ultimate Christmas prize – the gift of membership to the award-winning, Byron Nelson designed, Headwaters Golf Club. WOW -this would truly be the gift that keeps on giving year after year!
January 1 is within sights, and a repeat theme in New Year’s resolutions for many of us is a renewed commitment to physical fitness. It’s easily within our reach in Teton Valley. See you in the mountains!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM TETON SPRINGS LODGE & SPA!
Eat, drink and be healthy it’s time to engage all senses at Teton Springs Resort!
I was able to wear shorts on my walk yesterday. Go figure. But who’s complaining? The Idaho ski packages being touted as some of the best out there by the state’s tourism office will click in soon enough at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa! Winter weather will arrive this week and a new season begins.
Now is the time to savor the waning days of October and prepare for winter’s onset. It time to gather wood and batten down the hatches; it’s predicted to be a great snow year. We’ve had a good run, no, a great run. Teton Springs Lodge & Spa lodging guests were just treated to an extra week of golfing on the Headwaters Course which is now put to bed. Soon cross country skiers will be gliding on the fairways.
It’s also time to think about what kind of physical shape we’re in so when the snow does fly, we’re ready for the serious snow sliding Teton Valley skiers and snowboarders have easy access to. For some that may mean a ski conditioning class or extra time on the yoga mat. Dry land ski training is also another great way to get in shape for everything winter will throw at us. I’ve watched people cruise around the Teton Springs Resort community with their skis on wheels and I have to wonder how an activity that can whip you into such great shape can look like so much fun. Personally, I would rather get in shape with a series of regular massages at the Stillwaters Spa.
The benefits of massage are obvious. While many consider massage therapy just a glorified way of indulging ourselves in one of life’s greatest pleasures, the benefits of massage on our physical and mental well being are real and well documented. I don’t normally allow myself the luxury of a massage but after nursing a very sore back for weeks, I decided it was time for the exerts to work their magic. I scheduled a therapeutic/deep tissue massage at the Stillwaters Spa.
Now thru the end of November the nice folks at the spa will also extend your massage, like they did mine, from 60 to 90 minutes at no extra cost. I’ve always heard rave reviews about all of the therapists at Stillwaters, but now speaking from personal experience, Angela should be named to the Spa USA All Star Team! This woman’s solid background and years as a massage therapist was evident from the get go. Angela is strong, intuitive and truly listens to her clients; with each passing minute (thank goodness there were 90 of them!), I could feel whatever chronic muscle tension I had build up start to evaporate. Angela also added into the massage a few of the essential therapeutic doTERRA oils Stillwaters now has in their arsenal of personal wellness products. The different smells were truly a “gift of the earth,” which is what the name doTERRA means in Latin. The health benefits of doTERRA have been touted for years. Glad I finally listened.
Now with a fresh spring in my step, it was time to indulge that other very important sense, that of taste. For me that usually means enjoying good food with friends at the Headwaters Grille.
Overlooking the first fairway of the Headwaters golf course, the Grille could very well be the perfect watering hole. It’s got a warm and cozy vibe and Chef Jordan is always serving up something tasty. And, back by popular demand, starting October 31, they’re dishing up a special that will suite everyone’s taste, two for the price of one entree.
The Headwaters Grille has switched to their fall/winter schedule so make sure you plan on a Thursday thru Saturday visit. Sundays they feature the NFL SUNDAY TICKET to satisfy the need for football, all day and all teams. From 11 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. you can watch your favorite squad toss the pigskin in style while enjoying time-honored game day snacks. If it’s Sunday, it’s Headwaters!
So, let’s have November be, if even unofficially, embrace your senses month. Take in the visual beauty of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest from the deck of a luxury mountain log home at Teton Springs, and if you really listen, you’re likely to hear the distinct sound of an elk bugling deep in the woods.
Feel an overwhelming sense of well-being envelop your entire body with a signature massage at the Stillwaters Spa & Salon and absorb the delicious lavender scent with an organic facial treatment. Last but certainly not least, treat your palate with a night out at the Headwaters Grille.
So, start this winter season off right by taking care of you! Call Teton Springs Lodge & Spa at 877.787.8757 for a visit guaranteed to awaken all senses.
SEASONS COLLIDE IN TETON VALLEY THIS TIME OF YEAR!
This is a very conflicting time of year for many people. We mourn the end of summer but when the time comes, we can’t wait for the magnificent fall season we’re typically treated to in Teton Valley. It’s definitely been a tad strange this year. It almost felt like the foliage around Teton Valley was also resisting the transition into a new season. I was starting to think the trees would never change colors. We waited, and waited, and suddenly overnight there they were, the magnificent gold, orange and yellow leaves replacing summer’s green. A man and woman driving along Highway 31 into Victor stopped me today as I walked and asked, “Do you live here; this valley is the most beautiful place!” Sometimes it takes a stranger’s view of our world to remind us how lucky we are to live here.
Beautiful Scenery in Idaho and the Northern Rockies
ROAD TRIP – Speaking of strangers. If you’re a stranger to the scenic byway that takes you from Teton Valley to Island Park and into West Yellowstone, rectify that as soon as possible. This is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking drives in North America and a key reason why guests visit Teton Springs Lodge & Spa this time of year. To feel the full impact of this drive, it’s important that you start your engines in Victor. The views and points of interest officially start here. Most of us “locals” have taken this route, long before tourism gurus officially designated it as one the “Top 10 Scenic Drives in the Northern Rockies.”
The temporary closure of Yellowstone shouldn’t discourage. Between Teton Valley and West Yellowstone there’s plenty to see and do. It’s worth the trip just to sample the gem of eastern Idaho, the Mesa Falls Scenic ByWay. You’ll hear the Upper and Lower Mesa Falls long before you see them. The Falls are so spectacular, a real treasure. And, to experience the full assault of fall colors that border the Falls, I would get going. This loop also claims Harriman State park and the famous Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. Wouldn’t hurt to pack the fly rod.
The Headwaters Club at Teton Springs – Pristine Beauty
There are also quite a few of us hanging onto the golf season with every morsel of our being. Watching the course maintenance crew at the Headwaters Club at Teton Springs preparing this baby for its winter hibernation is like saying good-bye to a good friend you won’t see for the next 5 months or so. It’s not a good feeling. It wouldn’t hurt nearly as much if Headwaters wasn’t in such pristine shape. Really, the only hint that things are indeed winding down are the brilliant hues that enclose the resort, colors that easily mirror the most blazing sunset. This time of year the camera is the most important accessory in your bag. The fairways are pristine and the putting surfaces smooth & true. Good bye old friend, for now.
Thanks goodness the Stillwaters Spa & Salon is always there to take care of us! Right now there are a lot of happy guests at Teton Springs enjoying a little pampering, both in their sweet lodge room and with a much needed massage or facial. This fall get-away package is definitely a reason to drop everything and take care of you!
From the hotel at Teton Springs you can see the snow-capped mountains so our thoughts and obsessions quickly turn to the next great thing – snowsports. With our October storms this year it’s not a stretch to get our hopes up and envision hitting the slopes, or perhaps strapping on our backcountry gear, a tad earlier this season. We’ve seen it too many times here in Yellowstone-Teton country.
Relax in Luxury at Teton Springs
Besides the obvious, which are the incredible facilities at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa, visitors often choose this boutique hotel because of its brilliant location.
The founding fathers of Teton Springs sure knew what they were doing when they placed this first rate resort in the heart of Victor. It’s exquisitely positioned just about equal distance to the two best ski resorts in the Cowboy State, Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
Targhee, a true neighbor in Teton Valley, is easily accessible with literally three turns from Teton Springs. It’s such a pretty drive as you wind up the Targhee Road you almost wish it would last longer. The Jackson Hole Ski area is also just three turns away in the other direction, with a hop, skip and jump over Teton Pass. It’s never too early to book those ski vacation packages at Teton Springs. Idaho skiing looms on the horizon.
We have so much to look forward to.
