When you’re in the hospitality business, there’s nothing more gratifying than when your property and staff are recognized, especially when the kudos are primarily coming from your guests.
Teton Springs Voted Number One in Idaho… Again!
As we sit here assisting our hotel guests in the morning hustle and bustle as they head out the door anxious to hit the slopes, and watching the snow fall, which is a frequent ritual in Teton Valley, I’m allowing myself a brief moment to gloat. It was just announced that Teton Springs Lodge & Spa was named the “Best Hotel in Idaho” for the fourth straight year. Any recognition as the “best” is quite the honor, but to be named the “Best Hotel in Idaho” by the prestigious U.S. News & World Report, well, that’s something that warrants bragging rights.
This is a publication that is easily considered a stalwart of American journalism, a true media news giant since the early 1930′s. It has always distinguished itself as being top notch with its editorial content, always resisting the urge to cave to the public’s morbid curiosity for any morsel of celebrity shenanigans, pop culture, sports and the scandal du jour. Instead, U.S. News & World Report built its reputation on giving sound advice to its readers by publishing rankings & analysis, from the “best of” in hospitals, colleges, automotives, health plans, finance, and the like. Information people really need, imagine that.
What determines the “best” of anything can be so subjective, a personal appraisal often reflecting a consumer’s limited snapshot in time. U.S. News & World Report takes a more scientific, multi-faceted approach to determine their ratings. Travel industry leaders consider a hotel’s star ratings, recommendations, consumer appraisals and travelers’ reviews to comprise their list of who should be considered the crème de la crème in each state. Think it’s accurate to say the accommodations and overall quality of the property have to be top-notch and possess those amenities that separate your hotel from the hum-drum, homogenized properties that dot the country.
Congratulations Teton Springs Lodge & Spa – your pride of place continues to shine brightly!
Valentines Day in the Teton Valley
Teton Springs also holds the recipe for romance this Valentine’s Day! Why settle for same old, same old, which usually means chocolates and roses. Other than to fill the coffers of Hallmark, Valentine’s Day presents the perfect opportunity to think outside the box and truly recognize how much we care about someone. Yes, Cupid reigns supreme in this month of February, and our guests will be looking to us for advice on how to honor all special relationships.
It’s easy to come up with heartfelt ideas while you’re a guest at Teton Springs. There’s adventure, discovery and even pampering galore. Here’s but a few ideas on how to spend this special day with someone you love!
Snowcat Skiing at Grand Targhee
Snuggled up in the back of a snowcat with your sweetie at Grand Targhee as it chugs up Peaked Mountain for a day of powder skiing sounds pretty special to me (23″inches of fluff fell on the slopes at powder Mecca Grand Targhee this past week.)
Speaking of powder – a heli ski trip into the Tetons says “love” loud and clear!
Start the adventure with a scrumptious breakfast in the Lodge’s new Storehouse Café, then off to Jackson Hole for a delightful horse-drawn sleigh ride into the National Elk Refuge. Toasty under cowboy blankets, you’ll find yourself eye-to-eye with as many as 14,000 majestic elk that winter here, in the shadows of the Tetons.
Stillwaters Spa & Salon
The Stillwaters Spa & Salon commemorates Valentine’s Day the entire month of February with sweet specials! They also recognize the importance of de-stressing, and what offers the perfect balance of relaxation and pampering better than a 90 minute massage (and worth noting – at the 60 minute price throughout February!). This way you both get the ultimate and heartfelt gift!
Fly fishing on the South Fork River!
Trust me; it’s never too early to book a spring or summer fly fishing excursion on eastern Idaho’s most renowned river. Book a day trip, or a multi-day all inclusive stay, at Teton Springs’s sister resort, South Fork Lodge, undoubtedly one of Natural Retreat’s most pristine and ruggedly elegant properties. And, it’s worth repeating that this could very well be the best dry fly fishing in the entire country.
Happy Valentine’s Day, and remember, nothing says LOVE louder than adventure and discovery in Yellowstone-Teton country!
Things are heating up at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa, a Natural Retreats property, and I don’t mean the temperatures. The summer fun meter has skyrocketed at the resort as well as in this entire Yellowstone-Teton area. With all the glorious traditions and revelry of the 4th of July celebrations behind us, our guests arriving now in beautiful Teton Valley can focus on the more important tasks at hand like fishing, golfing, hiking, river rafting, swimming, and on and on and on.
The summer weather here in eastern Idaho beckons us all outdoors. I know that everyone likes to talk about the weather. It’s more of a national pastime than baseball for goodness sakes. I guess truth be known, I can understand the fascination with what Mother Nature has next on her crazy agenda given the almost weekly reports of one weather-related disaster after another. Thus, I hesitate to brag about our weather scene for fear of altering the cosmic forces that are responsible for the picture perfect days and nights we experience here on a daily basis. Not many places can claim daytime temps in the low 80′s, under purple blue sunny skies with virtually no humidity, followed by cool evenings and sleeping temps that often require slipping under the down blanket. It’s a place where cranking the air simply means opening the windows wider, especially in one of the luxury cabins at Teton Springs.
TEE IT UP
It’s perfect golfing weather for a round on the Headwaters Golf Course, particularly in the early evening when the air is still and the lakes glisten in the afternoon light. You’re also likely to share this setting with the occasional fly fisherman as many of the spring fed lakes and ponds on the course are teeming with native trout. The Headwaters Course at Teton Springs simply couldn’t be in any better shape. The fairways are lush, the greens true and the scenery mesmerizing. And the best part, it’s truly affordable to tee it up on a world-class course like Headwaters when you book a Stay & Play Package at the Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. While this club is indeed private, hotel and cabin guests have playing privileges on the 18 hole links and the par 3 short course, both designed by golf’s greatest talent, Byron Nelson. Left your sticks at home? Not a problem, the folks at the Pro Shop have the latest and greatest rental gear.
The Headwaters Course is a main attraction in this valley and it’s well worth carving out a few hours to sample eastern Idaho’s signature course, recipients of the industry’s most glowing reviews (Las Vegas Golf & Leisure Magazine recently named Headwaters one of the “6 Must Visit Resorts for the Vegas Resident!”).
THE SOUTH FORK EXPLODES
It’s almost a given that fly fishing is on most visitors itinerary when Teton Springs is the destination, and for the next 12 weeks or so, bringing in the big browns and rainbows on the South Fork of the Snake is almost like taking candy from a baby! Lodge guests returning from a day on the South Fork, one of the best dry fisheries in North America, are grinning ear to ear and that includes the kids too. The guides from Teton Springs partner, South Fork Lodge, will lead this charge. Anglers can expect nothing short of success given the multiple dry fly hatches now going off simultaneously. A sampling includes salmon flies, yellow sallies, pale morning duns, & golden stones. Excited yet? The
South Fork Outfitter Shop also has the largest selection of flies and fishing gear in Conant Valley. It’s simple – if fishing is your passion, why go anywhere else?
HIKE, BIKE AND OOH & AAH
If it’s time to push yourself physically, head to neighboring Grand Targhee Resort. Known primarily as a Mecca for powder skiing and other winter activities, Targhee offers summer recreation in equal proportion once the 500 inches of snow drains from their slopes. Hop on the scenic chairlift at the resort’s 8,000 base, and as you disembark at the 10,000 summit, be prepared to enter a zone that remains unspoiled, unhurried and spectacular.
You won’t find any vantage point in Teton Valley that affords this view of the magnificent Grand Tetons. You’ll also be hard pressed to find better biking and hiking trails, and it’s not all death defying as one may expect given this mountain’s impressive vertical drop. Targhee has done a yeomen’s job of carving out trails that optimally suit the beginner and intermediate rider but options do indeed include trails that will push the limits for the more
experienced pedaler. The same welcoming principle applies to their hiking trails. Walking down from the summit offers a virtual explosion of color as wildflowers dot the entire landscape.
IT’S TIME FOR PAMPERING
Whew, a vacation at Teton Springs can be exhausting, albeit pleasantly exhausting, and there’s nothing better than mixing strenuous activity with a tad of self indulgence. The Stillwaters Spa & Salon at Teton Springs is the perfect retreat given its full menu of treatments and services. Spoil yourself for a few hours, and before you know it, it’s time for more adventures!
Ah, why do I love Teton Valley, let me count the ways. We’ve just turned the corner into November and we’re still playing golf and fishing for Cutthroat. Crazy. This is after skiing Teton Pass, just days ago, when the skies opened up and a healthy dose of high altitude fluff graced our local hills. It’s hard not to be weather crazed when you live in the mountains. After all, so much of our daily life revolves around being & doing in the great outdoors, and when we can’t be outside, we’re obsessing about being outside.
Weather also dominates the news on a regular basis. Having spent my entire formative years at the Jersey shore, my heart breaks with the never ending imagery flashing across my T.V. screen of the unconscionable wrath and rage of Hurricane Sandy. These seaside communities comprise some of the country’s most treasured & breathtakingly beautiful places. It’s truly stomach wrenching watching chunks of your summer vacation memories literally floating in the Atlantic.
We too can have weather challenges living in the Tetons but fortunately not the kind where the National Guard has to be called in. Sometimes we have to deal with too much snow at one time (hehe). But winter storms, even the epic ones, barely slow progress in Teton Valley. Snow, and lots of it, is the fabric of life here and history tells us that once the faucet turns on we’re golden until spring. Music to a skier’s ear for sure.
Come Stay at Teton Springs and Experience the Best Snow on Earth!
Everyone’s gearing up for the inevitable; neighbors are hauling wood, putting visqueen on windows, switching to winter treads, and basically buttoning down the hatches. The local Idaho resorts, as well as Wyoming’s Grand Targhee and the Jackson Hole Ski area, are gearing up for what promises to be another terrific season.
Thanksgiving Time – The Turkey Chase Here
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and for many that means more than just turkey, pumpkin pies and football. For excited snow sliders it’s a car stuffed with buddies and gear, or a family ski vacation that’s officially kicking off the winter season. Yes, vertical descents are on the horizon.
But not so fast. We have an important dry land pursuit to take care of before hitting the slopes. Strap on the sneaks; it’s time to raise some money for two terrific non profits in Teton Valley at the annual Turkey Chase 1 mile, 5k and 10k Run (or walk), at Teton Springs Resort. Racers will line up outside the Headwaters Grille on Saturday morning November 17. Mark your calendar!
Fall & Winter – The Best Place to Stay and Relax is Teton Springs
Teton Springs Lodge & Spa is an optimum spot to kick off winter family vacations. The one & two bedroom suites are warm, cozy, roomy, deluxe and… drum roll please, so affordable.
It also appears holiday season brings out the generous spirit in the folks at Teton Springs because when you book two nights at Thanksgiving they throw in the third night FREE. Now that’s something to be truly thankful for! Check out all our Fall vacation packages!
Yes, there are a lot of reasons to count our blessings, not just at Thanksgiving but every day – family, friends, good health, and not to mention, money saving ski and stay packages and endless turns in knee deep powder.
