Music Fills the Tetons

Hard to believe it’s mid July already! How on earth are we going to squeeze everything in? With the local rivers beckoning with a plethora of dry fly hatches in a total frenzy, it’s hard to think about anything other than casting our line, especially on eastern Idaho’s South Fork.

However, for Teton Valley locals, as well as for our Teton Springs Lodge & Spa guests, there are always other major distractions worthy of our attention. http://www.tetonspringslodge.com/activities One is happening this weekend, and that’s the 10th Annual Targhee Fest July 18-20. And Grand Targhee, in its typical style, will most assuredly live up to its stellar reputation by guaranteeing every ticket holder will enjoy a jam packed 3 days of musicians literally rocking the Tetons to their foundation.

The line-up is nothing shy of fabulous with one of my personal favorites leading this musical charge – Buddy Guy. This guy practically invented Blues (just ask Eric Clapton!) and his performance alone is worth the price of admission. Weather should be absolutely perfect at Targhee’s 8,000 feet base, even luxuriously cool at night so you’ll need both the heavy duty SPF and a jacket for evening performances. It’s important to secure just the right spot for listening so immediately toss a blanket down on Targhee’s beginner ski slope, which is now transformed into the optimum outdoor music amphitheater. Now all that’s left to do is groove to the relaxing vibe that has always defined the Targhee Fest. The scene at this festival, complete with local food vendors and your favorite libation, can easily rival any outdoor music venue in North America.

During band breaks there’s plenty to do, although people watching can typically offer some of the best entertainment. The scenic chairlift ride to the top of Fred’s Mountain with panoramic views from the summit is guaranteed to inspire you for the next act, or saddle up for a horseback ride through Targhee’s flower strewn meadows. For the more adventuresome, it may be time to finally conquer the rock climbing wall. Bottom line -you’ll have plenty to keep you and the entire clan busy at this all-season resort.

Thursday nights it’s Music on Main with Paper Bird the headliner this week in the quaint Victor City Park. It’s always a special gathering of old friends and the chance to meet and socialize with folks from both sides of the Tetons. Music on Main, July 24, features James McMurtry. American as apple pie, McMurtry is a rock and folk-art/Americana singer who mesmerizes audiences across this great nation. The tunes are always FREE at Music on Main, and the experience – well – it’s priceless!

Now perhaps it’s time for a little quiet time and there’s no better sanctuary than Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. A few steps from your stunning Lodge accommodations you’ll reach the pool with its sprawling sun decks and hot tubs. Order your favorite cocktail and contemplate what culinary delight is in your future at the resort’s Range Restaurant. Operated by award-winning Chef Rick Sordahl, it’s obvious Rick is truly passionate about food. His inspired offerings incorporate beef and pork from native ranches and farms with fresh fish flown in occasionally for good measure. It’s a warm and relaxed atmosphere complete with the most attentive staff. Bon Appétit!
