A LIFT & LODGE PACKAGE AND A HOLIDAY ART SHOW – WOW!
Who could have written a better script than the one that is playing out this ski season?! We take it for granted that Grand Targhee is going to be the first ski and snowboard area to open in the region; their historical track record speaks for itself. However, this season they’re even defying the odds for how much snow has fallen in the Tetons in November, a month known more for turkey and dressing and Black Friday frantic Christmas shopping than it is for all mountain skiing.
It hasn’t happened in years, if ever, that even this powder snow Mecca in Alta, Wyoming has been able to open their entire mountain, running all lifts by Thanksgiving weekend. Ah, what a holiday season indeed we’re enjoying here in Teton Valley and it only promises to get better! Pre Christmas is also the optimum time to stay at Teton Springs and have a powder-filled and mellow day on Targhee’s slopes. We just happen to have the perfect Lift and Lodge Package for this getaway and it sure beats hanging at the mall!
Speaking of Christmas shopping. This Saturday, December 4th, so happens to present the perfect opportunity to scoop up those special gifts for all of your loved ones, and maybe even pick up a treat or two for yourself! Last year at the Teton Springs Lodge & Spa Holiday Art Show I was able to find unique treasures for literally everyone on my list. Who needs Macy’s and the other run-of-the-mill mega retailers when you can choose from a variety of hand-made treats crafted by local artist in our very own community – jewelry, custom hats & scarves, pottery, oil paintings, pillows and the list goes on. Santa is coming too and kids can even make their own tree decorations. The Stillwaters Spa & Salon staff is also hosting an “open house” in conjunction with this event and has cool Gifts and Gift Certificates wrapped and ready for under the tree. Who in their right mind wouldn’t covet a deep-tissue massage or a hydraquench treatment for Christmas, because after all, reindeer sweaters are so out!
Here’s the schedule for the festivities this weekend at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa.
- 10-3 HOLIDAY ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW – Featuring dynamic art & jewelry by local artists
- 10-5 OPEN HOUSE AT THE STILLWATERS SPA – discounted Holiday Gift Packages & Spa Gift Certificates wrapped and ready for under the tree
- 11-3 FREE CHILDRENS’ CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT CRAFTS – browse the craft fair while your kids create their own handmade ornaments!
- 12 – 2 SANTA CLAUS VISITS TETON SPRINGS! – Santa makes a special visit to the Lodge & Spa with FREE Polaroid shots with Jolly-Old- Saint-Nick!
- 11-2 CHILI BAR LUNCH – Chef John Wentworth is serving up his home made scrumptious chili ($7 for adults/$5 kids 6-12 & kids 5 & younger eat FREE!)
- 1-2 TURKEY BOWLING AT VALLEY OF THE TETONS LIBRARY – roll that strike with a Teton Springs Lodge sponsored turkey and a special prize is yours!
We’re partners with our friends at the City of Victor on this Holiday Festival so check in with them for a full schedule of downtown events:787-2940 and don’t miss the fireworks! See you at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa this weekend! Call 787-7888 for reservations and Holiday festivities.
I don’t know of many people who go into the holiday season feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Do you? The craziness starts well before Thanksgiving and for the next five or six weeks we’re immersed in often frantic days of overeating, over shopping (inevitably followed by the dreaded over returning), just overdoing in general. Then we ring in the New Year exhausted and settle into winter. There’s all this talk out there now about “returning to the basics,” which hopefully means spending more time with friends and family. We should also enhance this commitment to create more hang time with our loved ones by heading outdoors with them, leaving the PC and the myriad of other electronic gadgets we covet on the shelf for a time.
It’s been an odd fall season here in Teton Valley. We enjoyed unusually warm weather in September and October which extended the golf season on the Teton Springs Resort Headwaters Golf Course. Granted, the links officially shut down in mid October, which may seem early to some diehards. However, you just never know when old man winter will strike in this part of the country and the staff needs time to put the grounds to bed for the winter. We also snuck in an extra month of terrific fishing on our local rivers. It was a memorable fall season for sure for all things outdoors.
Closing the golf course didn’t stop us crazed duffers from playing a hole or two, with the management’s blessing of course. But now it’s mid November and the faucets have officially turned on. It’s been snowing for a few weeks. Looks like the La Nina prediction, calling for lots of snow in the Tetons, is spot on. Our weekends are now spent at ski swaps and conditioning classes and anxiously watching Grand Targhee’s Snow Report. Everyone’s hopes are up for a powder rich winter, and why not. We’re off to a very promising start.
As I watch the inches pile up on the deck outside Teton Springs Lodge & Spa, I can’t help but be excited about the holiday season this year in Victor’s Teton Springs Community. It’s almost guaranteed that you’ll kick off this year’s holiday season feeling relaxed and rejuvenated with a three night Thanksgiving weekend stay at the deluxe Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. Only thing that isn’t deluxe is the price. Now here’s the deal; stay three nights in a luxurious Lodge room, and one night is FREE. It’s crazy but true, and worth repeating. Spend three nights at the Lodge but only pay for two.
My vote for best case scenario – arrive Thanksgiving day for Chef John’s scrumptious Thanksgiving spread at the Headwaters Grille; Follow up dinner with a relaxing soak in the hot tub and then off to bed. Grand Targhee lifts open at 9 and there’s nothing worse than being tardy on the season’s opening day. But if you’d rather sleep in and hang at the Lodge, that’s understandable too. Perhaps an afternoon leisurely cross-country ski at the resort is more in order. Or, completely escape the beaten path; strap on the snowshoes and head into the Caribou-Targhee National Forest adjacent to the resort. You may just find yourself eyeball to eyeball with our resident moose. Cap off this perfect holiday with a deep-tissue massage or hydraquench at the Stillwaters Spa & Salon. After all, the lifts will turn again tomorrow.
This Thanksgiving special also available in the one and two bedroom Lodge Suites and in the luxury log mountain cabins. Truly give thanks this holiday season with your friends at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa.
FALL FOLIAGE IN YELLOWSTONE-TETON TERRITORY – TRULY A MAGNIFICENT SIGHT TO BEHOLD!
This time of year Mother Nature always tries to trick me, seemingly overnight altering the landscape of Teton Valley with her sudden burst of color appearing on the wayward willow or unsuspecting aspen. I play a game, silly and fruitless though it is, and try and catch her working her magic. This year I did it! It happened on my walk just this week at Teton Springs Resort. I pinky swear, a lime green leaf turned yellow almost before my very eyes. Just one, have you, but I knew there was no turning back. The changing of the seasons is the one phenomenon we can always count on and there’s a certain comfort in its consistency, even though, that single gold leaf spells the end of the glorious summer season we so love here in the Rockies.
This time of year we literally go to sleep with our outside world a proverbial sea of green and wake to a kaleidoscope of brilliant yellows, gold, orange & burgundy hues. It truly happens in a blink of an eye. Seriously, I’ve always wondered why people don’t travel west to view the magical transformation we experience in the fall season. People flock to Teton Valley for the mother lode of recreation available here, but somehow, leaf peeking is usually not noted as one of the top reasons folks give for venturing into this glorious Yellowstone-Teton territory. It’s just not on most people’s radar screens outside of our special little world.
I grew up in Pennsylvania so I’ve always had an appreciation for how magnificent the fall season can be. But even in my “City of Brotherly Love,” which can legitimately hold bragging rights to some of the most incredible fall foliage, we were always the stepsister to our neighbors up north. New England always stole our thunder for top honors in the fall foliage division so I can understand why the west doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Here in Teton valley, the backdrop is so extraordinary in virtually every direction. We’re warmly embraced by the Teton and Big Hole Mountains and their side hills are virtually blanketed as far as the eye can see in the richest hues found in any crayola box. So many trees, so much open space, so much rubbernecking!
With our wet spring and cooler temps this past spring and summer, we can expect a full-on assault of fall colors. You’ll find yourself in the thick of it at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. Book a luxury cabin which sit in a thick band of changing aspens, and if you can manage to pull yourself away from the many creature comforts enjoyed in this resort community, take the extraordinary “Top 10 Scenic Drives in North America,” Or, take in a round of golf at the Headwaters Golf Club. It just so happens we are now offering an incredible Fall Stay & Play Package.
Every hole on this magnificent Byron Nelson designed course is totally surrounded by bands of aspens, willows, dogwoods, cottonwoods and the occasion maple; the colors will astound you. We all know in golf it’s optimum to keep your head down, good luck with that!
We embrace this time of year, you will too, as soon the glorious hues of the rainbow will be replaced by that welcomed shade of winter white. We’ll be ready!
