WHO NEEDS THAT SILLY BOX OF CHOCOLATES?
CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY IN THE GLORIOUS TETON MOUNTAINS!
I’ve always had a soft spot for Valentine’s Day. Not because I’m an incurable romantic or that I fall into the Hallmark trap and send schmaltzy cards filled with honey-dripping prose to everyone I love. It’s simply a day that will always remind me of my dad. I don’t actually remember my father making a big deal out of our birthdays nor other special occasions throughout the year, but boy, would he ever shine on Valentine’s Day. He religiously would show up after work with beautiful red velvet boxes, graced with big red satin bows and filled with delectable chocolates for my mom and my sisters and of course me.
Sadly my dad has since passed. I miss him lots more than I do the chocolates on Valentine’s Day. However, I have discovered that there are much better ways to celebrate this time-honored occasion showcasing universal love and the deepest of human connections. We all know Valentine’s day is not just about romantic love but more about sharing and expressing generosity of heart to our friends, family, and of course, our partners. There are so many interesting ways to commemorate Valentine’s Day (or month!) besides the Whitman’s Sampler or a dozen brilliant roses, which will most likely wilt much faster than your enthusiasm for the great outdoors (and definitely set you back more than a full day lift ticket and cruising one of the manicured slopes at Grand TargheeResort).
If you’re lucky enough to reside in, or simply visit Teton Valley in February, there are options galore for glorious mountain adventures. Teton Springs Lodge & Spa offers a one night, one day Ski and Lodge Package, which is both affordable and romantic. This lodge drips with intimate atmosphere.
Relax in Luxury at Teton Springs after a Day on the Slopes
After your day of playing in Targhee’s knee-deep powder, you’re more than ready for a couples massage back at the Stillwaters Spa at Teton Springs.
This facility is truly lovely with a staff to match and Stillwaters offers every spa treatment you can imagine. You will be pampered every moment you’re at Teton Springs, 100% top of the line for you, and everything at our Lodge and Spa.
However, if it’s you and your sweetie sharing this time at Teton Springs, I would highly recommend a couple’s massage in their duo suite.
An added bonus – it just so happens these folks are offering this and other Cupid specials during the entire month of February!
|For You…||For you & your sweetheart||For you & your friends|
|only $125… a $150 value!||only $200… a $250 value!||$50 each person (minimum of 4)|
Other goodies come with these special February treatments so be sure to ask the staff for complete details when you book.
Another terrific way to spend a day with your sweetie or good friends is a snowshoe trek up Teton Canyon. This could very well be one of the most dramatic vistas on earth – you’re treated to breathtaking Teton views every step of the way. Take a lunch, take a break and soak in the sights!
Snowmobiling, Yellowstone Park, Waterfalls, Hot Springs & More
Another unique way to ring in Valentine’s Day is a snowmobile trip into Yellowstone National Park.
Winter season in America’s first national park is both mesmerizing and unforgettable, not to mention undeniably romantic! Snuggle up on the sled and watch Old Faithful erupt and then continue on to Geyser Basin, the geological wonder famous worldwide or head to the Firehole River Canyon and watch abundant wildlife take their afternoon dip. Another cool option is a snowmobile trip to eastern Idaho’s Mesa Falls located on the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. Watching these thundering falls engulfed in a sea of steam will raise anyone’s heart rate.
Another type of sled for a trip-of-a-lifetime excursion is one powered by the paws. Load up into a warm, comfy dog sled, settle back and enjoy the ride. Your musher is a local expert and knows exactly where the best wildlife viewing is along the way to Granite Hot Springs. Tucked deep in the Gros Ventre Mountains, your reward at the end of this trail is a glorious soak in the healing waters of the natural hot springs.
The list could go on and on. There are indeed plenty of ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day in this Yellowstone-Teton region. Sample an outing or two that will surely revive your sense of adventure and perhaps even awaken the romanticism that dwells in all of us. Ask the nice people at Teton Springs to help plan your trip. They are the experts and it’s guaranteed that this visit will surely make your heart flutter. So, get outside this February – it sure beats chocolate!
