TETON SPRINGS RESORT EMBRACES THE ARRIVAL OF FALL FOR EYE-POPPING ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS, INCLUDING THE JACKSON HOLE FALL ARTS FESTIVAL!
Labor Day is quickly approaching. While many embrace Labor Day Weekend for its extra day reprieve from the hum-drum of the 5-day work week, many mourn its arrival. Labor Day weekend for many is often construed as the official passing of the hot, hazy, crazy days of summer and all the benefits of such. We all know summer doesn’t officially end until September 21st but this fact is insignificant. Labor Day signifies the end of freedom for many; long adventuresome trips out of town with our families, days on the lake, fly fishing with the coveted grasshopper, 4th of July parades, lightning bugs, and the list goes on and on. It’s all over but the crying come Labor Day, for some that is.
Not in the great American West! For those of us lucky enough to live in Yellowstone-Teton territory, Labor Day signifies just another dynamic beginning. New visitors to the area will discover that the fall season is the most extraordinary in this part of the world. Teton Springs Resort guests seem to mark their calendars for a post Labor Day trip to Teton Valley, Idaho, and with good reason. The weather is picture perfect – daytime temps hover in the high 70’s and a light sweater is required for evening wear. Days are crystal clear; clouds take a hiatus, leaving virtually no chance for that occasional afternoon thunder shower. Mountain bikers and hikers wipe sleep from their eyes as they walk out of Teton Springs Lodge & Spa, and within minutes, are taking in the sights and sounds of the Caribou-Targhee National Park, adjacent to this resort community. Golfers take to the links at the Headwaters Club embracing the cool morning temps. Ah, life is truly grand in eastern Idaho this time of year.
In addition to the staggering array of activities and recreation available in Teton Valley year round, I’ll give you another compelling reason to come spend some magnificent September time at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. It’s the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival, happening in our neighboring hip town of Jackson, Wyoming. Slated for September 9-19, the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival is undoubtedly one of the Yellowstone area’s premier and nationally recognized celebrations, and one that highlights many forms of art in the Tetons.
It’s hard to believe that this year marks the 26th anniversary of this extraordinary event, and, how much this cultural phenomenon has grown through the years. For the Jackson Fall Arts Festival aficionado, it’s quite obvious how delightfully diverse this event has become over the years. For the newbie, please know that it’s so much more than an immersion in the visual arts as it highlights a dizzying array of visual, contemporary, culinary, Western and Native American Arts. Take a leisure afternoon gallery walk among the many world-renown galleries in this iconic cowboy town of Jackson, and take in the fine art and delectable food and wine provided by local restaurants. The depth of art provided in all forms at this festival is, frankly, difficult to find in any major American city; works by nationally & internationally recognized artists, cowboy poetry, cuisine, jewelry, photography, sketch shows, music making, wine tasting, and the list goes on.
What makes this festival even more unique, and one event you absolutely don’t want to miss, is the Western Design Conference Gallery Exhibit and Sales. Hosted by Teton Valley Idaho’s own, Teton Home and Living Magazine, this event is considered the world’s preeminent exhibition of Western furniture, home accessories and fashion. It’s also a reunion of sorts of an eclectic group of artists, interior designers, scholars, architects, collectors and fashion designers with an interest in the west. Check out the full Fall Arts Festival schedule. I promise you’ll be impressed.
So, as the old 60’s tune goes, “See you in September,” and after a day of gallery walks and a full immersion in the arts, you’ll be more than ready to head back to Victor and rest your weary head (and feet!) at Teton Springs Lodge and Spa. Choose a deluxe Lodge rooms or suite, and, if there’s a group of art lovers in tow, go for one of the luxury cabins surrounding the golf course. These 3, 4 and 5 bedroom cabins are the epitome of elegance and comfort with a true western flare.
And, you may also want to book that deep tissue massage now; the Fall Arts Festival will prove to be pleasantly exhausting!
