FALL FOLIAGE IN YELLOWSTONE-TETON TERRITORY – TRULY A MAGNIFICENT SIGHT TO BEHOLD!
This time of year Mother Nature always tries to trick me, seemingly overnight altering the landscape of Teton Valley with her sudden burst of color appearing on the wayward willow or unsuspecting aspen. I play a game, silly and fruitless though it is, and try and catch her working her magic. This year I did it! It happened on my walk just this week at Teton Springs Resort. I pinky swear, a lime green leaf turned yellow almost before my very eyes. Just one, have you, but I knew there was no turning back. The changing of the seasons is the one phenomenon we can always count on and there’s a certain comfort in its consistency, even though, that single gold leaf spells the end of the glorious summer season we so love here in the Rockies.
This time of year we literally go to sleep with our outside world a proverbial sea of green and wake to a kaleidoscope of brilliant yellows, gold, orange & burgundy hues. It truly happens in a blink of an eye. Seriously, I’ve always wondered why people don’t travel west to view the magical transformation we experience in the fall season. People flock to Teton Valley for the mother lode of recreation available here, but somehow, leaf peeking is usually not noted as one of the top reasons folks give for venturing into this glorious Yellowstone-Teton territory. It’s just not on most people’s radar screens outside of our special little world.
I grew up in Pennsylvania so I’ve always had an appreciation for how magnificent the fall season can be. But even in my “City of Brotherly Love,” which can legitimately hold bragging rights to some of the most incredible fall foliage, we were always the stepsister to our neighbors up north. New England always stole our thunder for top honors in the fall foliage division so I can understand why the west doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Here in Teton valley, the backdrop is so extraordinary in virtually every direction. We’re warmly embraced by the Teton and Big Hole Mountains and their side hills are virtually blanketed as far as the eye can see in the richest hues found in any crayola box. So many trees, so much open space, so much rubbernecking!
With our wet spring and cooler temps this past spring and summer, we can expect a full-on assault of fall colors. You’ll find yourself in the thick of it at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. Book a luxury cabin which sit in a thick band of changing aspens, and if you can manage to pull yourself away from the many creature comforts enjoyed in this resort community, take the extraordinary “Top 10 Scenic Drives in North America,” Or, take in a round of golf at the Headwaters Golf Club. It just so happens we are now offering an incredible Fall Stay & Play Package.
Every hole on this magnificent Byron Nelson designed course is totally surrounded by bands of aspens, willows, dogwoods, cottonwoods and the occasion maple; the colors will astound you. We all know in golf it’s optimum to keep your head down, good luck with that!
We embrace this time of year, you will too, as soon the glorious hues of the rainbow will be replaced by that welcomed shade of winter white. We’ll be ready!
Travelers looking to visit the Rocky Mountains during the summer months are often looking to find that perfect “authentic west” experience. Located only 30 miles from Jackson Hole, cabins at Teton Springs Resort offer visitors an extraordinary option to the stereotypical cabin experience. The 3, 4 and 5 bedroom Signature Cabins at Teton Springs could never be mistaken for “rustic” accommodations and offer luxury, comfort and functionality. Located in one of the most splendor settings in North America, in the center of the idyllic Teton Valley, Teton Springs Resort not only offers premier accommodations but also a complete resort experience.
While there many other lodging options in this Yellowstone-Teton area, including Jackson Hole cabins & hotels, the uniqueness and luxury associated with each Teton Springs cabin is soon evident. Standard fare simply does not apply here. Each cabin has been exceptionally designed and decorated with a comfortable western flair and includes: well appointed kitchens, magnificent great rooms, cozy gas fireplaces, hardwood floors, granite counter tops, broadband television, DSL internet and BBQ grills, washer and dryer, & private patios. Nestled in the aspens, adjacent to the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, one can’t even imagine the evening wildlife viewing from all of the resort’s cabin decks.
Jackson Hole Cabins at Teton Springs Resort
Another important distinction from neighboring Jackson Hole cabins is the complete resort experience only found in the Teton Springs community. Cabin guests also have full access to all of the amenities afforded to Lodge guests staying in one of the resort’s 52 well-appointed rooms or suites. A state-of-the-art Fitness center and complete Spa & Salon are literally just steps from lodge rooms and convenient for the resort’s cabin dwellers. The adventure doesn’t stop there! There’s championship level golf at the Headwaters Club with many holes backing up to the signature cabins. Jackson Hole is a short and scenic drive and offers scenic and whitewater rafting on the Snake River. Springtime rings eternal (and free) in Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks for Teton Springs Lodge & Spa guests!
Here’s one for your “bucket list” – VISIT YELLOWSTONE PARK! Chances are you have already experienced this wonder of the world, our nation’s first National Park, at some point in your life. After all, Yellowstone has been around for well over a hundred & thirty years. So, if you haven’t felt the spray of the most famous geyser in the universe erupt, Old Faithful, or explored its 2million plus acres, then you better get going! At Teton Springs Lodge & Spa, we pride ourselves on having the world’s best “neighbors” – Teton & Yellowstone National parks. There is virtually never a bad time to visit these world-renown treasures, but for me, spring time is best.
Come early May, the roads open to motorized vehicles, although, with so little traffic this time of year you’ll wonder if the roads are truly open or if you alone have some mystical pass to enter this magical world. The only thing better than a magical pass is a FREE one and the staff at Teton Springs will make sure you’ve got one of those too, right there among your regional maps and “please don’t feed the bears” pamphlets! There are manyoutdoor activities in the Teton Valley and Yellowstone Park.
It’s a short and scenic jaunt to Grand Teton National Park from Teton Springs. You’ll love the trip, especially if you visit Jackson Hole along the way. Don’t forget to stop, or at least slow down, when you see the National Elk Refuge just outside Jackson’s city limits and bordering Teton National Park. You may see the magnificent Trumpeter Swans that call Flat Creek home, and the largest elk herd in the world, or at least part of the pack who haven’t yet boogied for their summer habitat in Yellowstone. Marvel at the Grand Teton Mountains as the sun glistens on their peaks and set your viewfinder on the mighty Snake River, running wild with spring runoff.
Springtime in Yellowstone means spotting baby bison literally napping on the roadways and an invite to see all of the park’s famous creatures coming out of their winter slumber; coyotes, eagles, black & grizzly bears, mule deer, elk and the great gray wolf. The wildlife is not nearly as leery of human types this time of year so up-close-and- personal viewing is probable. Yes, it’s a glorious time in the parks, for you, and the mostly 4-legged “neighbors” who reside there.
Enjoy your special time in these national treasures, spring or summer, on us! Just remember, don’t feed the bears and we’ll see you back at Teton Springs Lodge!
