I love chocolcate. No, I mean I really love chocolate, and embrace any excuse to give or receive it. It’s not just part of the reason – it IS the reason why Valentine’s Day is my most favorite day of the year. I can’t believe it’s merely a lover’s holiday and not a national holiday. I not only expect that a giant Whitman Sampler will be mine come February 14th, but I also reciprocate, giving a big box of gooey filled delights to my significant other. After all, he’ll share right?!
Bon-bons just won’t cut it for those romantics who have loftier goals on how to truly put the exclamation point on this special day set aside for lovers (or chocoholics!) So, I have a much sweeter idea for all the visionaries out there who truly want to WOW your lover come February. How does a “sweetheart package in Teton Valley” sound? Anyone who has been to this gorgeous valley beneath the Tetons knows that it’s undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places on earth. Lots of folks recognize Teton Valley, Idaho as more of a summer destination – the scenic gateway to Jackson Hole, Yellowstone & Teton National Parks. Outdoor enthusiasts also know that Teton Valley is hands down the recreation capital of the western hemisphere. For my money, winter is even more special and romantic, in so many wondrous ways.
For couples that relish slicing thru deep pow together, the ultimate bonding experience has to be a heli ski trip in the Tetons (talk about getting your heart beating and that’s what love is all about right?!). With over 300” of snow in the region thus far, you can only imagine what a day you would have and, drifting through pillow soft snow is only the beginning of this adventure.
After a day of ripping the pow, I recommend the romantic sleigh ride under the star-studded sky followed by a gourmet dinner at the neighboring Linn Ranch. Back at Teton Springs Resort enjoy a quiet glide across their Nordic tract or a snowshoe excursion off the beaten path. Take your camera; wildlife viewing is part of the tour.
By the end of this day you’ve earned an evening hot tub watching a brilliant sun set in the western sky. Your next stop is the Headwaters Grille. Sip a vintage merlot by the crackling fire while you savor something delectable from Chef’s John special valentine menu on February 11, 12 & 14. Grille. If you can tolerate an additional assault to your senses, try the extraordinary hydraquench body treatment at the Stillwaters Spa & Salon.
And, did I mention carving your own signature turns on the freshly groomed snow at Grand Targhee Resort? Are your pleasure sensors overloaded yet? They will be. Teton Springs Lodge & Spa is the place to make all of that happen for you and your sweet pea this winter. Make it a surprise. Book a luxury suite; it’s almost as affordable as chocolate. Or, consider this special Valentine Package. I think you’ll discover two nights isn’t enough but it’s a start.
- 2 night’s lodging in a deluxe lodge Room
- 60 minute “couples” massage in the two-person therapy suite with fireplace, followed by complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the relaxing and elegant Zen Room

If your schedule only permits a one night stay (with all the goodies or without) the nice folks at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa can customize something for you. Savor the taste of Teton Springs Lodge & Spa this Valentine’s Day. That Whitman Sampler is so yesterday! Call 208.787.7888
FALL FOLIAGE IN YELLOWSTONE-TETON TERRITORY – TRULY A MAGNIFICENT SIGHT TO BEHOLD!
This time of year Mother Nature always tries to trick me, seemingly overnight altering the landscape of Teton Valley with her sudden burst of color appearing on the wayward willow or unsuspecting aspen. I play a game, silly and fruitless though it is, and try and catch her working her magic. This year I did it! It happened on my walk just this week at Teton Springs Resort. I pinky swear, a lime green leaf turned yellow almost before my very eyes. Just one, have you, but I knew there was no turning back. The changing of the seasons is the one phenomenon we can always count on and there’s a certain comfort in its consistency, even though, that single gold leaf spells the end of the glorious summer season we so love here in the Rockies.
This time of year we literally go to sleep with our outside world a proverbial sea of green and wake to a kaleidoscope of brilliant yellows, gold, orange & burgundy hues. It truly happens in a blink of an eye. Seriously, I’ve always wondered why people don’t travel west to view the magical transformation we experience in the fall season. People flock to Teton Valley for the mother lode of recreation available here, but somehow, leaf peeking is usually not noted as one of the top reasons folks give for venturing into this glorious Yellowstone-Teton territory. It’s just not on most people’s radar screens outside of our special little world.
I grew up in Pennsylvania so I’ve always had an appreciation for how magnificent the fall season can be. But even in my “City of Brotherly Love,” which can legitimately hold bragging rights to some of the most incredible fall foliage, we were always the stepsister to our neighbors up north. New England always stole our thunder for top honors in the fall foliage division so I can understand why the west doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Here in Teton valley, the backdrop is so extraordinary in virtually every direction. We’re warmly embraced by the Teton and Big Hole Mountains and their side hills are virtually blanketed as far as the eye can see in the richest hues found in any crayola box. So many trees, so much open space, so much rubbernecking!
With our wet spring and cooler temps this past spring and summer, we can expect a full-on assault of fall colors. You’ll find yourself in the thick of it at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa. Book a luxury cabin which sit in a thick band of changing aspens, and if you can manage to pull yourself away from the many creature comforts enjoyed in this resort community, take the extraordinary “Top 10 Scenic Drives in North America,” Or, take in a round of golf at the Headwaters Golf Club. It just so happens we are now offering an incredible Fall Stay & Play Package.
Every hole on this magnificent Byron Nelson designed course is totally surrounded by bands of aspens, willows, dogwoods, cottonwoods and the occasion maple; the colors will astound you. We all know in golf it’s optimum to keep your head down, good luck with that!
We embrace this time of year, you will too, as soon the glorious hues of the rainbow will be replaced by that welcomed shade of winter white. We’ll be ready!
In addition to the wide array of Jackson Hole Packages available few will compare to the many superb value-added offers available at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa in Victor, Idaho. Teton Springs Resort offers creative Lodge & Activity packages throughout the year. Only 25 minutes across the Teton Pass from Jackson, Wyoming, Teton Springs Resort is Idaho’s only resort in Eastern Idaho with its own championship golf course offering 52 casually elegant guest rooms, or, for an affordable upgrade, one and two bedroom suites. All suites come equipped with elegant western furnishings, fully state-of-the art kitchens and a master bath with European detailing.
It’s difficult for Jackson Hole packages to compete with the newest additions to the impressive list of accommodations at Teton Springs. This cozy resort has recently added Signature Cabins to its arsenal of accommodations – three, four and five bedroom homes surrounding the property’s magnificent golf course. All cabins offer the ultimate private retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Nestled among the foothills of Teton Springs Resort, the luxury cabins offer a unique retreat and spacious upscale living usually afforded to resort homeowners.
Jackson Hole Packages just don’t Compare
Jackson Hole Packages may offer golf as a component but Teton Springs is the only resort in eastern Idaho with its own championship golf course and other note worthy amenities. Blending together a diverse blend of tradition and talent, the private Headwaters Club is an 18-hole course designed by the later Byron Nelson, as well as a nine-hole short course and practice facility. A 25 meter pool with lanes for lap swimming and a large deck area, two hot tubs, basketball court and two tennis courts, hot tubs and swim and tennis completes, with two tennis courts and a 25 meter pool is also available, as well as a complete fitness center. It’s unlikely a Jackson Hole news guide will mirror the latest Unlimited Golf Package at Teton Springs, which is available to all resort guests, saving golf enthusiasts literally hundreds of dollars in green fees on three day packages and longer. Time to tee it up!
