Thanksgiving 2013 in Teton Valley

Thanksgiving 2013 in Teton Valley was once again filled with glorious time honored traditions, including powder skiing at Grand Targhee. No surprises there. This place can easily claim bragging rights to having the lightest and driest snow in the country. Every Subaru that has graced the highways in Teton Valley, going back to the early 70′s, has proudly displayed one of the resort’s infamous bumper stickers. My personal favorite for years was “Grand Targhee, Snow From Heaven, Not Hoses.” Given that Targhee’s base sits at 8,000 feet, a Thanksgiving Weekend season opening, or even cranking up the lifts pre turkey day, was never much of a stretch. Targhee is typically the first ski area in the region to open its doors and everyone else is always playing catch up to what locals refer to as “The Ghee.” It’s not just the quantity of snow that sets this Wyoming gem apart from its competitors; the
quality of Targhee’s snow is legendary. It was always the real deal at Targhee, no snow guns to maneuver around on their slopes. Targhee did eventually add a few snow guns, limited to their lower beginner slopes. It hardly counts as snow making and is so anticlimactic; Mother Nature handles the job pretty darn well for this boutique resort.

Best Skiing and Snow in the World – In Teton Springs Lodge’s Backyard

You don’t have to take my word for it just how grand this Grand Targhee truly is. They’ve enjoyed glowing testimonials from the top ski writers in the country going back to their opening day in 1969. Most recently, they were rated number 8 of the Top 10 Ski Resorts in the United States by Forbes Magazine (Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Teton Springs neighbor to the east was rated #1!) Not too shabby.

Teton Springs Lodge & Spa enjoys a great relationship with the award-winning, yet totally laid back Grand Targhee. Ski packages with Targhee keep Teton Springs hopping from November thru March end, and, they share something else – star power.

Teton Springs has also been recognized on numerous occasions by the hospitality industry and recently voted the “Best Hotel in Idaho” in 2013 by US News & World Report (two straight years in a row!). There’s definitely a theme here, the best in the West right here in unassuming Teton Valley – Targhee’s snow from heaven and heavenly accommodations at Teton Springs.

Anyone Up for Heli-Skiing?

Speaking of ultimate powder turns, and regardless of whether you’ve been naughty or nice, heli skiing should be on every skier and snowboarders’ wish list this Christmas season. High Mountain Heli Skiing is back at Teton Springs and their chopper is ready to take to the skies in the Tetons and surrounding mountains. There’s over 305,000 acres out there in the wild blue yonder so you may want to consider two days of flying high with the best heli crew in the Rockies.

Victor Christmas and Winter Festival – Come See Santa

There’s a chance to talk to Santa about all things powder and more at Teton Springs Resort on Saturday December 7. In partnership with the City of Victor’s Holiday Festival, Teton Springs Lodge & Spa host their annual Holiday Art & Gift Show from 11-4 with Old Saint Nick himself on property from 11-3. It’s a chance to rub elbows with some of Teton Valley’s most original artists and pick up affordable & unique gifts for the entire family, including Spa gift cards.

The spa staff is also on hand to rub yours; enjoy a free paraffin wax hand treatment while the kids flock to the ornament making booth, but only after their free picture with Santa. The Headwaters Grille will serve up a delicious soup and sandwich special, and trust me; you’ll need your strength!

The City of Victor offers up
a daylong menu of activities including a festival and light parade complete with evening fireworks. The turkey bowling friendly competition on Victor’s Main Drag is always good for a belly laugh or two, and a chance to bring home Christmas dinner.

Relax, Warm-Up, Enjoy the Stillwaters Spa

We all know the holiday season is a time for joy but it can also be stressful and physically draining. The Stillwaters Spa is doing everything they can to help folks stay calm, cool and collective in December and the offers are terrific. Indulge in a facial special or perhaps a yoga class with girlfriends in tow. Top off a glorious day at Stillwaters with a gal pal party in the warm and intimate Sage Café. Cricket at the Spa can make all the arrangements for you; it could very well be the most relaxing get together of the holidays.

As the NFL playoff season heats up, there’s no better place to watch the action then the resort’s Headwaters Grille. They have every game, every Sunday. Chef Jordan will make sure you’re well fed!

Call the nice folks at Teton Springs to book your winter getaway. Enjoy the turns! 208.787.7888
