The Promise of Powder Snow that Keeps us Awake at Night

Let others dream of sugar plums this holiday season – It’s the promise of powder snow that keeps us awake at night!

I stuck my neck out pre-Thanksgiving predicting that Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort would undoubtedly be open for skiing before any leftover turkey was consumed. It wasn’t really a huge gamble at all when you look at the track records of these areas, particularly Grand Targhee. Historically Targhee, the powder Mecca of the Tetons, has welcomed snow sliders of all varieties by Thanksgiving. This has pretty much been their annual story going back 40 plus years ago when they first cranked up their shiny new Bannock lift. So, betting on these two Wyoming areas to beat most Rocky Mountains to the punch is an oddsmaker’s dream.

The Snow is Here – Teton Village and Targhee are Popping!

We always hear the adage that location, location, location dictates the success of any given business. It’s logical. Teton Springs Resort is testament to how true this popular expression really is. Teton Springs attracts visitors from all over the world for many reasons, but the location card is one we proudly play, and, with good reason. Most of the year we’re focused on our favorable proximity to Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks and literally the best fly fishing rivers in North America. We also have the cool town of Jackson Hole and the incredible “Top 10 Most Scenic Drives in North America,” leading travelers from our resort gates and heading north. This road trip thru Teton Valley sports the best and most dramatic views of the Tetons and visitors have almost too many choices on where to stop in eastern Idaho before they even reach Yellowstone. Harriman State Park and Mesa Falls are a few examples that are a must for any itinerary.

Location, location, location has equal significance for guests visiting Teton Springs Lodge & Spa during the winter season. Situated literally half way between Grand Targhee & Jackson Hole resorts, guests can be sampling the slopes of both these terrific Wyoming resorts within a half hour of leaving their comfy Teton Springs lodge room or deluxe mountain log cabin. The illustrious Jackson Hole ski area has another reason to be boastful this year, having just been ranked the #1 ski resort by the illustrious Forbes Magazine. Not to mention both resorts are currently showing a hearty 50 inch plus snow base at their summit snow stakes. Yes, fat powder-cruising skis and freestyle snowboards should definitely be on everyone’s Christmas list for Santa this season!

Teton Springs is the Perfect Stay and Play Luxury Hotel

Teton Springs isn’t waiting for Christmas to dole out a few gifts of their own. There are specials galore at this gorgeous Victor Idaho property to jump start that family ski vacation. Pressed for time getting ready for the holidays – start with a one night ski package. It’s the perfect time to see for yourself just how good skiing is in the Tetons at the moment.

Eat Well While Visiting the Teton Valley

Your evening will be perfectly capped off with a relaxing soak in the lodge hot tub followed by a great meal at the Headwaters Grille (Thursday thru Saturday). The folks at the Grille are feeling the Christmas spirit too – their “two for one” on all dinner entrees has been extended through December 15, regardless of whether you’ve been naughty or nice!

Christmas, ‘tis the season where hotels typically don’t offer any deals. Teton Springs Lodge & Spa doesn’t adhere to those rules. You can book a one-bedroom suite for $199 a night that’s valid from Dec 20-Jan 3. Seriously, I wouldn’t drag my feet on this one!

Most skiers dramatically feel the effects of that first day on the slopes. The screaming thighs & aching back; it’s simply a rite of passage we all have to endure each year. I also think it’s just nature’s way of reminding us just how lucky we are to be doing something we love, and, in such a magnificent place. So, before heading back to the slopes for another day of pure bliss, wobble into the Stillwaters Spa for a deep tissue massage. This time, don’t plan on leaving the table for 90 minutes; the spa now is offering a 90 minute massage for the 60 minute price. Another early Christmas gift from Teton Springs.

Staying at Teton Springs – Relaxing after Hitting the Slopes

It certainly feels like now is the time to book your ski and stay packages at Teton Springs. The holidays are right around the corner, and with the snow that continues to blanket the mountains at the Jackson Hole ski area, and our very own Grand Targhee, you’ll want to secure your spot soon at Teton Springs. All accommodations are guaranteed to please but the suites are particularly inviting this time of year with their cozy gas fireplaces and enough square footage to host even the extended family. Ski vacations are special here. So are the rates.

May your spirit be as light as the powder snow this holiday season!
